The OUSD Explore College, Career, & Community Options (ECCCO) program helps students explore careers to gain real world work experience and build their professional networks in fields of interest to them. There are a broad range of In-Person, Hybrid, and Virtual internships at local businesses and organizations and a wide variety of Career Technical Education (CTE) courses at Peralta colleges. The ECCCO Program prepares students for summer internships and courses that will help them learn and develop critical work-based skills needed for success.
Internships and Career Technical Education College Courses are critically important for young people as they prepare for life during and after high school. A summer internship or CTE class that provides a rich learning environment sends an important message to students: learning and earning are intrinsically related.
The ECCCO summer internship program runs June 14th through July 22nd, and students generally attend their internships Tuesdays – Fridays, with Monday mornings devoted to a seminar with their ECCCO SVPA Pathway teacher. Students are free to attend their internships on Monday afternoons as well. Students intern anywhere from 12 – 40 hours a week. Participating students receive a $1000 stipend and high school and/or college academic credit.
The OUSD ECCCO Summer Internship Program helps Skyline students to:
- Learn social emotional strategies to navigate challenging real world situations;
- Perform well at their summer college class, internship, or job;
- Articulate their learning effectively in terms of:
- Personal Growth;
- Content knowledge related to class/internship;
- Use their experience to inform and support career/life choices;
- Navigate a variety of digital platforms to build professional or career readiness and 21st century skills.
