Professional Drama Students Perform on Hamilton Stage at SHN Theater in San Francisco

On Wednesday, October 9, 2019 Professional Drama students Tessa, Sahara and Avelina stepped on the SHN Theater Hamilton stage to perform their original spoken word piece, History Unwritten, in front of more than 2000 of their peers. History Unwritten was created in the Professional Drama class as part of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History’s partnership with Hamilton for Education.

This partnership gave students in Title 1 funded high schools in 10 U.S. cities the opportunity to participate in the Hamilton for Education program. In order to be considered for tickets to the show, students were asked to create original performances pieces based on research of original source documents much like Hamilton creator Lin Manuel Miranda did when he conceived and wrote the musical. Once students pieces were written students were then tasked with memorizing their piece and recording their performances before submitting them for consideration to represent their school on stage by performing their piece at the Hamilton for Education matinee performance.
